Up until 2005, B.C. spot prawns were exported almost exclusively to Japan. In 2006 Steve Johansen of Organic Ocean teamed up with Chef Robert Clark to create the first B.C. Spot Prawn Festival as a way to keep B.C. spot prawns local. Since then, spot prawns have become a beloved local delicacy in BC.

Spot Prawn Festival

The annual Vancouver Spot Prawn Festival, organized by the Chef's Table Society, and sponsored by the Pacific Prawn Fishermen’s Association along with individual prawn fishermen, has grown into one of the hottest tickets on the Vancouver festival scene.
